A novel modality of Compton Scattering Tomography: Image formation and Reconstruction

Abstract

A new modality of Compton Scattering Tomography (CST) is presented. This model allows image acquisition and reconstruction using a fixed source and detectors placed on a fixed circle passing through the source. That is why the new modality is named Circular Compton Scattering Tomography (CCST). The modeling of the proposed system leads to the Radon Transform on circles passing through a fixed point. Numerical simulations for image formation and image reconstruction were carried out. The promising results show the viability of this new image system which is particularly suitable for small objects such as biomedical objects, human organs or cultural heritage objects.
